Application Guidelines

  1. Remove skirtings, radiators, and any plaster back to sound masonry at least 300 mm above visible signs of damp.
  2. Rake out mortar joints and roughen the substrate to improve mechanical key.
  3. Mix 25 kg of plaster using approx. 12.5 litres of clean water; allow to stand for 15 minutes, then remix.
  4. Apply at 10–12 mm in a single or two-coat process. Scratch back each layer to receive the next coat if required.
  5. Do not bridge DPC level unless a full tanking system (e.g. Hey’di K11) has been used.

Breathable, Salt-Resistant Renovating Plaster for Damp-Proofing Applications

Sovereign Renderlite Renovating Plaster is a lightweight, breathable, fibre-reinforced plaster designed for internal use on damp walls or after the insertion of a chemical damp-proof course (DPC). Its unique formulation allows walls to breathe while preventing the movement of liquid moisture and salts, making it particularly suitable for areas prone to condensation, such as cold external walls or basements.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Breathable Finish: Allows moisture to evaporate, reducing condensation and mould risk.
  • Salt Resistance: Prevents the passage of hygroscopic salts to the surface.
  • Excellent Thermal Qualities: U-value of 0.17 W/m·K, superior to traditional sand/cement (0.53 W/m·K) and gypsum plasters (0.46 W/m·K).
  • Easy Application: Suitable for hand or machine mixing; can be applied in single or multiple coats.
  • Versatile Use: Can be used on tanked surfaces treated with Sovereign Hey’di K11 when applied over an appropriate bonding coat.

Product Specifications

  • Form: Powder
  • Colour: Grey
  • Pack Size: 25 kg
  • Coverage: Approximately 3.5 m² per 25 kg bag at 10 mm thickness
  • Shelf Life: 6 months in unopened bags when stored in dry conditions
  • Contains: Cement, lime, aggregate, and waterproofing additives

Typical Applications

  • Replastering internal walls following the installation of a chemical damp-proof course (DPC)
  • Treating salt-contaminated masonry in older buildings and heritage properties
  • Renovating cold external-facing walls prone to condensation and mould
  • Basements, cellars, and below-ground spaces where breathability is critical
  • Chimney breasts and other areas affected by hygroscopic salt migration
  • As part of a complete breathable system when finished with Sovereign Renderlite Finish Plaster

Bonding Coat Over Tanked Surfaces

When applying Renderlite Renovating Plaster over Sovereign Hey’di K11, use a bonding coat:

  • Mix 1 part Sovereign SBR Bonding Agent with 1 part water, then blend with neat cement to form a slurry.
  • Brush apply a thin 1 mm layer of slurry to the K11 surface.
  • Apply Renderlite while the bonding coat is still tacky for proper adhesion.

Finishing & Decoration

  • After curing (typically 24 hours), apply Renderlite Finish Plaster at 1.5–3 mm thickness.
  • Paint coatings should be delayed as long as possible to allow full drying.
  • Wallpapering must be postponed for at least 6 months after DPC treatment.
  • For tiling, use a suitable adhesive applied directly to the base coat.

Usage & Safety

  • Contains cement and lime—may cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation.
  • Wear protective gloves, goggles, and a dust mask when mixing or applying.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation. In case of contact, rinse with water and seek medical attention if necessary.
