Fire Rated Plasterboard 1800x900x12.5mm by Knauf

Fire Rated Plasterboard

Fire Rated Plasterboard for Safer Internal Construction

Fire rated plasterboard is designed to provide enhanced fire resistance in internal wall and ceiling systems, helping to slow the spread of fire and maintain structural integrity for longer when used as part of a tested system. Commonly specified in residential, commercial and public buildings, fire resistant plasterboard is a key component in meeting UK Building Regulations for fire performance.

Our range of fire rated plasterboard includes products from leading manufacturers Gyproc, Knauf, and Siniat, all widely specified by architects, contractors and building control. These boards are engineered with a denser gypsum core and reinforcing fibres to improve fire performance compared to standard plasterboard.

Fire Resistant Plasterboard from Trusted Manufacturers

We stock fire plasterboard from industry-leading brands, manufactured in line with recognised British and European standards:

  • Gyproc FireLine plasterboard Gyproc’s FireLine plasterboard is a specialist fire resistant board, identified by its pink facing. FireLine is a Gyproc brand name and is designed to deliver improved fire performance when installed as part of a tested system.

  • Knauf fire resistant plasterboard – Knauf fire rated plasterboard is manufactured with glass fibre reinforcement for enhanced resistance to fire in walls and ceilings.

  • Siniat fire plasterboard – Siniat fire resistant boards are designed for use in partitions, linings and ceilings where increased fire protection is required.

While often referred to as fireproof plasterboard or fire proof plasterboard, it’s important to note that no plasterboard is completely fireproof. These products are correctly described as fire resistant plasterboard, contributing to fire performance when installed correctly.

Thicknesses Available

We stock the most commonly specified thicknesses for fire rated plasterboard:

  • 12.5mm fire plasterboard – including 12.5 mm FireLine plasterboard, widely used in domestic and light commercial applications

  • 15mm fire rated plasterboard – offering increased fire resistance where higher performance is required

These options are suitable for walls, ceilings and partition systems when installed in accordance with manufacturer guidance.

Applications for Fire Rated Plasterboard

Fire rated plasterboard is typically used in areas where improved fire performance is required, such as separating walls, escape routes, ceilings between floors, and commercial or multi-occupancy buildings. Fire plasterboard 12.5 mm is commonly used for standard fire-rated partitions, while 15mm fire rated plasterboard is often specified where enhanced resistance is needed.

Always refer to the relevant manufacturer data sheets and system specifications to ensure compliance with building regulations and fire performance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. We stock Gyproc FireLine and Knauf Fire Panel, both widely used on UK sites for reliable fire performance and full compliance with British and European standards.

Yes – all fire-rated boards we supply meet or exceed BS EN 520 standards and are suitable for use in fire-rated constructions.

Fireproof plasterboard contains glass fibre reinforcements and special additives that slow down fire penetration, unlike standard boards. This makes fire resistant plasterboard suitable for higher-risk areas where extra fire protection is necessary.

Yes - while its main role is fire resistance, fireproof plasterboard also offers enhanced acoustic insulation, helping reduce sound transmission in internal walls and ceilings.
