Planed Softwood Timber in a nominal 25x175mm size, finished at 19x169mm, is designed for interior joinery where timber appearance on show matters. This range is suitable for tradespeople and builders looking for a smooth, easy-to-finish timber that performs well in visible applications. Planed timber explained
Planed timber is marketed as PSE (Planed Square Edge) or PAR (Planed All Round). Both have surfaces planed to a smooth finish, with PAR offering smooth faces on all surfaces, often used where every side is visible. This product is softwood and is commonly chosen when appearance and a clean finish are priorities. While primarily used indoors, it can be used externally if properly treated and maintained. Why this 25x175mm planed timber is a good choice
The timber is completely smooth and splinter-free, providing an even base for stains, oils or lacquers. It delivers a tidy, aesthetic look for feature pieces or joinery that will be on show. The combination of a smooth surface and planed edges makes it straightforward to work with, reducing snagging when cutting, planning, or routing. Key details and practical notes
- Nominal size: 25x175mm; finished size: 19x169mm. The difference between nominal and finished dimensions is accounted for by planing and drying processes.
- Surfaces: planed on all sides in the PAR/PSE style, offering a consistent, smooth finish suitable for clear coatings.
- Finish options: compatible with stains, oils and lacquers to achieve a range of looks from natural to coloured finishes.
- Availability: lengths range from 0.9m to 4.2m, giving you flexibility for short joins or longer runs without joints in visible areas.
- Applications: ideal for interior projects such as shelving, sash windows and furniture where a refined timber appearance is important; external use is possible with appropriate preservative treatment to protect against moisture and weathering. How to use and care
Cut and layout with standard hand and power tools. Sand to a fine finish before applying the chosen coating. For exterior use, ensure timber is treated with a suitable preservative and, where necessary, primer and topcoat to maximise durability. This planed softwood timber offers a practical, cost-conscious option for visible timber work, delivering a smooth finish and versatile lengths to suit a wide range of interior projects.

All of our C16 and C24 graded timber is regularised
Regularised timber is timber that has been processed to have a uniform shape and size. This means that the wood has been sawn and planed to remove any irregularities and ensure that each piece of wood has consistent dimensions. Regularised timber is often used in construction, particularly in the framing of buildings, as it is easier to work with and can be more efficiently installed than irregularly shaped timber.
We have one of the largest ranges of timber lengths, dimensions and grades available to buy online.
The variation you require will determine the exact lead time and delivery method.
Most orders arrive within 3-4 days, the maximum is 7 days. Please get in touch before you order if you need a specifc delivery date.
Delivery charges vary by postcode. To find out the delivery charge, add the item(s) you require to your basket and select CALCULATE SHIPPING at the bottom of the page.
Some orders are delivered on our own vehicles based in Leicestershire and Cheshire. We also use carriers including Yodel and Tuffnells. For some sizes and locations we use regional distributors.
If you'd prefer crane offloading rather than tail lift vehicle offloading for your brick order then this service is available for the majority of bricks that we sell. Charges are shown at checkout.
For deliveries of less than 6 packs then Taillift offloading is normally a more cost effective option
