Overview

Sadolin Quick Drying Wood Preserver is an ideal treatment for new or untreated timber. It provides essential protection against wood decay, fungi and insects before applying a finishing coat.

For the standard drying formula, refer to Sadolin Wood Preserver.

Preparation

Preparation for bare or new wood

  • Ensure that timber surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, dry, and devoid of any dirt, dust, or other impurities.
  • The moisture content of the wood should not exceed 18% before application.
  • Remove any resinous deposits on the wood surface using a scraper or abrasive paper.
  • Scrub off any remaining resinous residues with methylated spirits.
  • Fill in any gaps or imperfections on the wood surface with Sadolin Wood Filler or Sadolin Stainable Wood Filler.

Preparation for previously coated or old wood

  • Completely remove any existing coatings by sanding or using a suitable varnish/paint stripper and remover before applying the wood preservative.
  • Mechanically sand back grey, weathered timber to reveal a clean, bare surface before treating with wood preservative.

Application

Before starting any project, conduct a small test area to ensure the product's suitability, adhesion, and finish. Always adhere to the manufacturer's instructions provided on the tin.

Avoid applying Sadolin Wood Preserver if there is a risk of rain or if air/substrate temperatures are below 8°C. Additionally, ensure the relative humidity is below 80% during application and drying periods. Protect the treated surface from frost and rain until completely dry to prevent adverse effects on drying and protection properties.

Thoroughly stir Sadolin Quick Drying Wood Preserver before and during application. This product is ready to use straight from the tin and should not be thinned.

Apply Sadolin Quick Drying Wood Preserver generously using a high-quality synthetic fibre brush or by short-term immersion (dipping or deluging) for 3-10 minutes. End grains can be treated either by brush application or by dipping until the timber reaches saturation.

Allow the preservative to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before applying a second coat using the same method as the first coat.

Finishing

Once completely dry, Sadolin Quick Drying Wood Preserver can be finished with a suitable wood paint, stain, or varnish.
