The Vandersanden Wickford facing brick (formerly known as Wickford Antique) is a handform clay brick manufactured from Weichsel loam, a locally sourced aeolian loam deposit formed during the Ice Age. The loam contains a high proportion of fine silt, making it well suited to the production of traditional handform bricks.

The brick features a sanded and grained surface texture, created using selected sands during the manufacturing process. These surface treatments contribute to the brick's distinctive red-anthracite multi-coloured appearance.
