    Overview

Sadolin Wood Preserver is a wood preservative formulated to protect against wood-rotting fungi and wood-damaging insects. It is suitable for use on interior and exterior wood that is not in contact with the ground or submerged in water. However, it requires an appropriate top coat as it is not intended to be used alone.

For those seeking a fast-drying wood preservative, consider Sadolin Quick Drying Wood Preserver.

    Preparation

Prior to treatment, timber surfaces must be adequately prepared, clean, stable, and dry, with a moisture content not exceeding 18%.

    • Remove any previous coatings entirely.
    • Mechanically sand grey denatured timber back to a bare, clean surface.
    • Eliminate resinous deposits with a scraper.
    • Wipe away any remaining resinous residues using a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirits.
    • Address any mould or algae growth with a suitable cleaner.
    • Fill gaps or imperfections in the wood surface using Sadolin Wood Filler or Sadolin Stainable Wood Filler.

    Application

Before starting, conduct a small test area to evaluate the colour, consistency, and compatibility of the finish. Adhere to the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Avoid application in rainy conditions or when air/substrate temperatures are below 10°C, or when the relative humidity exceeds 80% during application or drying periods. Protect from frost and rain until dry to prevent adverse effects on drying and protection provided by the preservative.

Thoroughly stir the product before and during application. Sadolin Wood Preserver is ready for use and should not be thinned.

    Application by brush

    • For optimal results, utilise a natural bristle brush.
    • Apply 2 coats in the direction of the wood grain, ensuring thorough coverage.
    • Each coat should be applied generously until saturation is achieved.
    • Particularly with end grains, apply 'wet on wet' until the timber reaches saturation.
    • Allow a minimum of 24 hours between applications.

    Short time immersion

Requires an immersion period of 3-10 minutes.

Allow a minimum of 72 hours drying time before further treatment with water-borne paints and wood stain systems.

    Cleaning equipment

Clean brushes and equipment with a proprietary brush cleaner immediately after use. In case of spills, remove immediately while still wet, using clean white spirit.

    Finishing

Once dry, Sadolin Wood Preserver must be finished with a suitable wood paint, stain, or varnish.
