6x1 Planed Timber: The Ideal Choice for a Premium Finish
When selecting timber for a project, you might wonder if 6x1 planed timber is the best fit for your needs. Known for its versatile applications and smooth finish, this planed timber option is ideal for projects where aesthetics and a refined touch matter. Here’s what you need to know about choosing planed timber and how it can enhance your next build.
What Is Planed Timber?
Planed timber, often labeled as PSE (Planed Square Edge) or PAR (Planed All Round), is timber with all edges and surfaces meticulously smoothed. While PSE has planed surfaces but may have rough edges, PAR timber is finished on all sides, making it slightly more expensive due to the added labor. This premium finish ensures it’s the top choice for applications where visibility and a sleek appearance are essential.
Finished Size Note: Our 6x1 planed timber (nominal size 25x150mm) is planed down to a finished size of approximately 19x144mm, or 6x1 inches in imperial. This important detail ensures you know the precise dimensions you’ll receive after machining.
Why Choose Our 6x1 Planed Timber?
Our 6x1 planed timber offers many advantages:
Aesthetic Appeal: With its smooth, splinter-free finish, it’s a natural choice for interior and exterior projects where appearance is key.
Versatility and Quality: This timber is strong, durable, and highly versatile, ideal for interior applications such as window frames, shelving, or even custom furniture. It can also be used outdoors if treated for weather resistance.
Range of Lengths: We offer a variety of lengths, from 0.9m up to 4.2m, so you’ll find exactly the right size for your project, whether short or long.
Understanding Nominal vs. Finished Sizes
When purchasing timber, it’s essential to distinguish between nominal and finished sizes. The nominal size represents the dimensions before machining, while the finished size—what you receive—reflects the final dimensions after smoothing.

FAQ
All of our C16 and C24 graded timber is regularised
Regularised timber is timber that has been processed to have a uniform shape and size. This means that the wood has been sawn and planed to remove any irregularities and ensure that each piece of wood has consistent dimensions. Regularised timber is often used in construction, particularly in the framing of buildings, as it is easier to work with and can be more efficiently installed than irregularly shaped timber.
We have one of the largest ranges of timber lengths, dimensions and grades available to buy online.
The variation you require will determine the exact lead time and delivery method.
Most orders arrive within 3-4 days, the maximum is 7 days. Please get in touch before you order if you need a specifc delivery date.
Delivery charges vary by postcode. To find out the delivery charge, add the item(s) you require to your basket and select CALCULATE SHIPPING at the bottom of the page.
Some orders are delivered on our own vehicles based in Leicestershire and Cheshire. We also use carriers including Yodel and Tuffnells. For some sizes and locations we use regional distributors.
If you'd prefer crane offloading rather than tail lift vehicle offloading for your brick order then this service is available for the majority of bricks that we sell. Charges are shown at checkout.
For deliveries of less than 6 packs then Taillift offloading is normally a more cost effective option
