Planed Softwood Timber in 38×100mm, finished size 32×94mm, is a smooth, easy-to-work-with option for interior joinery and feature pieces. If appearance matters, this timber provides a clean, splinter-free surface ready for staining, oils or lacquers. Planed timber is sawn timber that has been planed down until smooth. It’s commonly referred to as PSE (Planed Square Edge) when only the main faces are planed, or PAR (Planed All Round) when all faces are planed for a fully smooth finish. PAR surfaces tend to be more costly due to the extra planing, but they’re preferred where every side is visible. Our 38×100mm planed timber finishes to 32×94mm, making it suitable for internal joinery and visible details. It’s produced from softwood, which machines easily and accepts most finishes. The timber is completely smooth and splinter-free, providing a high-quality look without extra prep work. It can be left natural or treated to enhance durability and appearance. Key uses include shelving, interior features, window joinery such as sash elements, and furniture projects where a neat, uniform finish is important. While primarily for interior use, softwood timber can be used externally provided it is treated with an appropriate preservative or exterior finish and maintained over time to resist moisture and weathering. Length options range from 0.9m up to 4.2m, giving you flexibility for short sections or longer runs without excessive joins. Our range is selected to balance affordability with reliable quality, helping you stay on budget on both small fabrications and larger builds. Why choose this timber in your project:
- Smooth, splinter-free surfaces ready for stain, oil or lacquer
- Suitable for interior visible features; exterior use possible with proper treatment
- Consistent finished size of 32×94mm from a 38×100mm sawn profile
- Range of lengths to minimise joins and optimise waste
- Competitive pricing achieved through efficient sourcing and stock Tips for best results: plan ahead for moisture exposure, seal cut ends, and apply a compatible finish to protect against humidity and wear. This planed softwood timber delivers a dependable, attractive finish for hands-on builders and interior fit-out specialists.

FAQ
All of our C16 and C24 graded timber is regularised
Regularised timber is timber that has been processed to have a uniform shape and size. This means that the wood has been sawn and planed to remove any irregularities and ensure that each piece of wood has consistent dimensions. Regularised timber is often used in construction, particularly in the framing of buildings, as it is easier to work with and can be more efficiently installed than irregularly shaped timber.
We have one of the largest ranges of timber lengths, dimensions and grades available to buy online.
The variation you require will determine the exact lead time and delivery method.
Most orders arrive within 3-4 days, the maximum is 7 days. Please get in touch before you order if you need a specifc delivery date.
Delivery charges vary by postcode. To find out the delivery charge, add the item(s) you require to your basket and select CALCULATE SHIPPING at the bottom of the page.
Some orders are delivered on our own vehicles based in Leicestershire and Cheshire. We also use carriers including Yodel and Tuffnells. For some sizes and locations we use regional distributors.
If you'd prefer crane offloading rather than tail lift vehicle offloading for your brick order then this service is available for the majority of bricks that we sell. Charges are shown at checkout.
For deliveries of less than 6 packs then Taillift offloading is normally a more cost effective option
